Jakarta (Antara Bali) -  Indonesia is ready to invite investors to ensure the success of a roadmap for the development of e-commerce President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will launch soon, Communication and Information Minister Rudiantara has stated.

The minister made the remarks during the Indonesia Business Forum held in Shanghai on Saturday (Sept 3), acting chief of the Communication and Information Ministry's public relations bureau Noor Iza said here on Sunday.

Rudiantara acted as a keynote speaker at the Indonesia Business Forum facilitated by the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) and the Indonesian Embassy in China.

The forum which took place at  Shangrilla Hotel-Shanghai brought together hundreds of businesspeople from China and Indonesia. The event was managed by  the Indonesia China Chamber of Commerce (INACHAM) and the China Fortune Land Development (CFLD) to help businesspeople from the two countries increase their trade and investment.

Rudiantara said the roadmap for e-commerce is a series of more than 30 initiatives to develop e-commerce and digital business in Indonesia.

The initiatives deal with seven main issues including logistics, communication infrastructures, cyber security, taxation, consumer protection, funding and investment, and education and human resources.

If the initiatives are managed in a proper and disciplined manner, they will boost the success of e-commerce and digital business, he said.

Several keys to implementing the roadmap for the development of e-commerce that has been started from the beginning are encouraging Indonesia to become "the digital energy of Asia" and turning Indonesia into a country with the largest digital economy in Southeast Asia, he said.

The others are encouraging the attainment of e-commerce market transactions to up to US$130 billion by 2020 and creating a thousand national technopreneurs with a corporate value of US$10 billion, he said.

To help implement the e-commerce, from the standpoint of infrastructure, the Communication and Information Ministry is encouraging the capacity of broadband networks which connect islands and cities.

For its part, the government through the Palapa Ring project has developed optic fiber networks in regions that the private sector does not develop because they are not profitable, he said.

By developing the optic fiber networks, Indonesian people living across the country will have access to the Internet, he said. (WDY)
