Nunukan (Antara Bali) - Coordinating Minister for Law,Security and Political Affairs Wiranto said a number of government financed projects in the frontier district of Nunukan have been well implemented.

The retired four star general cited the progress made in the construction of a number of public facilities financed with the state budget in the frontier area.

Wiranto made an inspection tour of the Liang Bunyu port, student dormitory for children of Indonesian migrant workers across the border in Malaysia, and the Binalawan market center in the sub-district Sebatik.

He also inspected a concrete paved and asphalted ring road of the Sebatik islands linking Bambangan in the sub-district of Sebatik Barat and the village of Aji kuning in the sub-district of Sebatik Tengah and the Navy post of Sei Pancang in the sub-district of Sebatik Utara .

The attention given by the government to development of frontier areas began to show result in Nunukan as indicated by the expression of enthusiasm of the local people, Wiranto said.

"We have seen the condition in the island of Sebatik as the front veranda of the Republic. Development began to show concrete result," he said.

Slippery pathways and muddy traditional market centers have been asphalted and rebuilt with concrete, he noted.

He said the government would continue development in frontier areas that they would at least match the area across the border.

Earlier, Secretary of the National Body of Border Management (BNPP) Hadi Prabowo said development projects in the regency of Nunukan valued at Rp1.18 trillion have been 86 percent completed. (WDY)
