Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The Financial Services Authority (OJK) and the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) have agreed to establish initial collaboration in the fields of statistical and financial services for a five-year period.

Collaboration was realized with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between BPS and OJK on cooperation in the fields of statistics and financial services at the OJK building, Jakarta, Wednesday.

The MoU aims to support the implementation of the basic tasks of each institution in planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation, which require statistical data.

Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of OJK Muliaman D. Hadad remarked that the cornerstone of cooperation is synergy in supporting the provision of accurate, consistent, and sustainable data and information.

"This could be used during policy formulation and planning. Data and important information can serve as a basis for determination, planning, and evaluation to support the tasks of the institution," he explained.

Meanwhile, Head of BPS Suryamin believes that in order to produce accurate and rich statistical information, it needs to embrace other institutions to refine the data.

BPS also requires necessary data from financial institutions in order to portray the real development potential and the financial sector.

Working closely with OJK is expected to generate statistically useful financial products for the development of the nation.

"The exchange of data-rich information can provide indicators that can help the state and other institutions to come up with recommendations," Suryamin noted.

The scope of the MoU inked between the FSA and BPS concerns 12 chapters, including the provision, exchange, and use of data and information; enhancing the competence of human resources for offering statistics and financial services; socialization and education; and research and development. (WDY)
