Cilacap, C Java (Antara Bali) - The executions of several death row inmates have reportedly been carried out at Tunggal Panaluan shooting range in Nusakambangan island off Central Java's southern coast early Friday.
The executions took place at 00.45 a.m. local time after they were delayed due to heavy rains coupled with strong winds which caused the tent to collapse, a source who spoke on condition of anonymity told Antara.
"At 00.45 a.m.," the source said without elaborating on the number of death row inmates executed.
By 01.10 a.m. there had been no official information as to whether the executions had been carried out or whether all the death row inmates listed for execution had been executed.
Attorney General H.M. Prasetyo said earlier 14 drug convicts on death row would face the firing squad.
The 14 death row inmates are Freddy Budiman, Merri Utami, Pujo Lestari, and Agus Hadi of Indonesia, Zulfiqar Ali of Pakistan, Gurdip Singh of India, Onkonkwo Nonso Kingsley, Obina Nwajagu, Michael Titus Igweh, Humprey Ejike Nih, Eugene Ape, and Gajetan Acena Seck Osmane of Nigeria, and Ozias Sibanda and Frederik Luttar of Zimbabwe.
