Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Indonesia's tourism industry generated transactions valued at Rp6 trillion at the world's largest tourism exhibition, Internationale Tourismus Borse (ITB), in Messe Berlin, Germany.

         The exhibition, which began on March 9, will continue till March 13. Almost 10 thousand participants from 185 countries participated in it.

        "Indonesia is considered as a country with many potential tourist destinations," Michael Umbas, a commissioner of PT Hotel Indonesia Natour (HIN) and a part of the Indonesian delegation, said in a statement received by Antara here on Saturday.

        The management of PT HIN had a meeting with the Indonesian Tourism Minister, Arief Yahya, to discuss the role of SOEs tourism to support the government's program to attract 20 million tourists by 2019.

        "Tourism industry is ready to support the government program, including promoting the Wonderful Indonesia brand," Umbas said.

    Minister Arief Yahya said the Indonesian tourism industry has become the focus of the international community, especially after the country successful organized various attractive events to welcome the recent total solar eclipse.

        "About 100 thousand tourists enlivened the event. For nearly a year, many foreign tourists had waited enthusiastically to enjoy the natural phenomenon in Indonesia. The preparations made this time will go a long way in boosting tourism in the future," Arief Yahya said.

        With the achievements at the ITB Berlin, the minister hoped that all tourism players in the country will further improve the quality of their services and keep pace with technology.

        "The requirements of tourism have changed. We cannot only rely completely on the natural and cultural aspects but also have to ensure a proper technology based infrastructure," Arief Yahya said.

        A political observer, Boni Hargens, who joined the delegation, appreciated Indonesia's success in promoting culture and tourism at ITB Berlin.

        "I can say that this year Indonesia dominated other Asian countries at the fair. The credit goes to the Minister of Tourism and the Indonesian committee," Hargens, who is also on the Antara News Agency's Supervisory Board, said.

        Berlin tourism exhibition brings together all stakeholders in the field of tourism. About 1,000 top buyers participated in the event, which also saw 23,000 convention visitors, 50,000 private visitors and 115,000 trade visitors, and involved total transactions of 6.7 billion euros. (WDY)
