Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (Antara Bali) - President Joko Widodo
dedicated a solar-powered electricity generating plant in the village of
Oeipuah, Central Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, on Sunday.
"This is the first biggest capacity solar power plant made in Indonesia," he said after dedicating the 5 MW power project carried out by state-owned company PT LEN.
The president said a similar power plant with an equal ore even bigger capacity would also be carried out in other parts of the Indonesian eastern region.
"This is what we are going to carry out especially in remote islands, where developing coal-fired power plant will be difficult to carry out," he said.
He said a solar power plant is environment friendly and it is faster to build compared to a coal-fired power plant.
President Joko Widodo said he also plans to send for a floating power plant with a 20 to 30 percent capacity to help meet electricity demand in the region.
On the occasion he was flanked by energy minister Sudirman Said, minister/state secretary Pratikno and trde ministere Thomas Lembong. (WDY)
