Padang (Antara Bali) - The Indonesian Foreign Ministry has stated that Indonesia has mastered at least four out of eight sectors opened under the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) program.

"Indonesia has found good opportunities in the four sectors due to local labor getting good quality appraisal abroad," ASEAN Functional Cooperation Director General of Foreign Ministry, George Lantu said on Thursday.

The Foreign Ministry had hosted a discussion themed, "Increasing Preparedness of Manpower and Business Sector in West Sumatera Facing ASEAN Economic Community 2015" to help local residents comprehend and prepare for the AEC program.

George said Indonesian employees should not worry to the implementation of AEC 2015.

The Foreign Ministry has considered the advantages and capabilities that have been mastered by Indonesian employees in eight sectors.

According to George, the four sectors of employment that Indonesia has mastered are engineering, nursing, tourism and architecture.

The other four sectors needed by ASEAN countries are accounting, surveyor, medical practitioners, and dentist.

George added that Indonesia still needs to meet accounting and surveyor manpower necessity.

The Director General said these opportunities are available for Indonesian employees due to some Indonesian companies, such as PT Dirgantara Indonesia, Aneka Tambang, Exim Bank and Pertamina being operated in the ASEAN region.

According to the data from the Transmigration and Labor Service for West Sumatra Province, the government has improved competency and productivity of local employees through job training.

The government has also applied an accreditation system to the training program of local employees to guarantee the quality and capability. (WDY)
