Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Vice President M. Jusuf Kalla said he respected the decision of Director General of Taxation Sigit Pradi Pramudito to resign following his inability to meet the target of tax receipts for 2015.
"I respect his honesty, efforts and sportsmanship-like conduct," he said after opening the national working meeting of the Real Estate Indonesia (REI) 2015 here on Wednesday.
It is not merely a matter of incapability to achieve the tax receipts target for 2015; the domestic economic slowdown played its role as well, he said.
"It is not the target which is too high but the economy which is slowing down. If our economy was at the same level where it was two or three years ago, it (the target) could still be achieved," he said.
Finance Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro said earlier that he had received a letter of resignation from Pramudito on Tuesday morning.
"He is no longer active as of Tuesday," he said.
The minister said one of the reasons behind the taxation director generals resignation is that he felt unable to meet the tax receipt target of Rp1,294 trillion, set in the revised 2015 State Budget.
"He resigned because he felt (he would be) unable to achieve the target," he said.
For the time being, the government has appointed expert on taxation regulations and law enforcement, Ken Dwijugiastiadi, as acting Director General of Taxation.
