Jakarta (Antara Bali) - A legislator from Golkar Party has welcomed President Joko Widodos (Jokowis) decision to cut regulations and red tape to boost the countrys economy.

"It is right. This is what former president SBY (Soesilo Bambang Yudhoyono) had never done," legislator Muhammad Misbakhun stated at a discussion here on Thursday.

On Wednesday, President Jokowi issued three economic policy packages to boost the competitiveness of domestic industries through deregulation and debureaucratization and promotion of law enforcement and business certainty.

Jokowi pointed out that 89 regulations had been reviewed out of the 154, which were evaluated by the team. Meanwhile, the government has prepared 17 new government regulations, 11 draft presidential regulations, two draft presidential instructions, 63 draft ministerial regulations, and five other draft regulations.

He noted that the government had also decided to accelerate the implementation of national strategic projects as well as eradicate barriers and obstacles hindering the implementation of national strategic projects.

The president would also simplify the issuance of spatial permits and land acquisition process, accelerate goods procurement and government services, and impose discretion in dealing with legal matters.

Thirdly, Jokowi would also increase investment in the property sector. He remarked that the government would push for housing development for the people belonging to the low-income group and open bigger investment opportunities in the property sector.

Misbakhun lauded the president for his courage to eradicate barriers that had been in existence since the former government.

"Deregulation and debureaucratization are what we have longed for from the government," he added. (WDY)
