Surabaya, East Java (Antara Bali) - Surabaya's General Elections Commission (KPU) declared that the implementation of the Surabaya Head Election of 2015 has been postponed to 2017 as only one candidate pair had registered for the mayor and deputy mayor election.

"The KPU waited until 11:59 p.m. local time (on Monday, August 3), but the pair of Surabaya mayor and deputy mayor candidate Dhimam Abror and Haris Purwoko did not arrive at the KPU office to complete the filing process for the registration," Surabaya's KPU Chairman Robian Arifin stated here in press conference on Tuesday middle night.

The only candidate pair signing up to contest for the Surabaya head election are Tri Rismaharini and Whisnu Sakti Buana.

The candidate pair of Dhimam Abror and Haris Purwoko had not registered as they had failed to complete the formalities until the deadline at 11:59 p.m. local time, on Monday, Arifin stated after holding a joint plenary meeting with the Election Supervisory Committee (Panwaslu).

"As the pair did not meet the requirements, so it has not received the registration documents," he affirmed.

The Haris-Abror pair failed to produce a police certificate, a letter from the court on not being convicted in the past, a wealth report receipt from the Corruption Eradication Commission, and a certificate confirming non-bankruptcy from the commercial court.

Arifin pointed out that the national KPU has sought an extension of one to two days from the Surabaya KPU to wait for the circular as per the regulation.

Meanwhile, Surabaya KPU commissioner Purnomo stated that as the delay period has not been specified in the norm of the Commission (PKPU), so it is still awaiting instructions from the national KPU. (WDY)
