Samarinda, E Kalimantan (Antara Bali) -- A 60-year-old woman was one of the rowers representing Paser district, East Kalimantan province, at the Mahakam International Dragon Boat Festival (MIDBF) 2015 in Tenggarong, Kutai Kertanegara district, East Kalimantan.

"We are used to paddles because we are fishermen," Nilam, the sexagenarian, said here on Friday.

Nilam and her team competed in a number of 1000-meter events and won the second position.

MIDBF 2015 saw 20 teams participating from Russia, Australia, Malaysia and Indonesia.

A number of Indonesian provinces took part in the event, including Jakarta, South Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan and East Kalimantan, among others.

MIDBF 2015, which began on June 11 and will be held till June 13, was organized in Kumala Island with the Mahakam River as the track.

Organized for the second time, this festival got recognition from the International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF) in 2014.

Kutai Kertanegara is the only district in Indonesia recognized by the IDBF that can organize an international dragon boat championship.

Earlier, the IDBF certification was owned only by the provinces of South Sulawesi and West Sumatra. (WDY)
