Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Secretary of Democratic Party's faction at the House of Representatives (DPR) Didik Mukrianto assessed that the remission arrangement for corruption convicts outlined in Government Regulation No. 99 of 2012 is a proportional adjustment.

"Regulation No. 99 of 2012 is a proportional adjustment for granting remission to specific criminals," Mukrianto stated here on Tuesday.

He explained that in Government Regulation No. 99 of 2012, there was no removal of the rights of prisoners, and all the rights have been set out properly.

According to Mukrianto, a special remission for extraordinary crimes such as corruption, drugs, terrorism, and other transnational crimes should be a matter of concern as extraordinary crimes have a major impact on the people. "I believe that the remission arrangement should be more focused or tightened by introducing certain conditions," he remarked.

He noted that the government will adopt an unbiased approach in granting remission to criminals. "Additional and specific terms outlined in Regulation No. 99 of 2012 will be revised by the government," he pointed out.

Justice and Human Rights Minister Yasona H. Laoly will amend the criteria for remission in extraordinary cases through the revision of Government Regulation No. 99 of 2012. Referring to the Government Regulation No. 99 of 2012, prisoners involved in corruption, narcotics, and terrorism are not entitled to remission. (WDY)
