Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The government's target to achieve an economic growth target of 5.7 percent in 2015 will depend on infrastructure development, a statistics official said.

"After overcoming the subsidy burden, now we have funds to develop the infrastructure. So, the target of 5.7 percent largely depends on the use of the funds to develop the infrastructure," Suhariyanto, a deputy of the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) said here on Thursday.

Suhariyanto also hoped that the government would also utilize the fiscal room to boost national development. After all, the government's spending for consumption in 2014 only grew 1.98 percent, drastically dropping from 6.93 percent in 2013.

"The government's consumption was small because its absorption capacity was low. But if the funds are transferred to the infrastructure and the development is running smoothly, it will boost a high consumption spending. We hope the capital expenditure will not be hampered with land clearance problems," he said.

On the economic growth in the first quarter of 2015, he said that the economy will still follow its trend at the beginning of the year, namely growing relatively high, particularly in the processing industrial sector and the agricultural sector is expected to also contribute to it.

"Usually, it is high in the first quarter because it is boosted by the agricultural sector. So, if the season is good, no floods and no other obstacles, agricultural products can support it," he added (WDY)
