Jakarta (Antara Bali)-The conflict between police and the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) drags on with another leader of the anti graft agency facing a legal case.
Earlier police already named deputy chairman of KPK Bambang Wjajanto a suspect , and under that the status, according to KPK law, he should resign or be dismissed as a KPK leader.
On Tuesday, police investigators indicated that KPK Chairman Abraham Samad would be named a suspect over alleged meetings with leaders of a political party offering to take care of the case of a politician facing corruption charges.
"The ones to determine him (Abraham Samad) a suspect is the (police) investigators, but what is certain is that he would be given the status of a suspect," chief of the Police Criminal Detective Body (Bareskrim) Insp.Gen. Budi Waseso said.
The conflict began when KPK named a police general a suspect in a corruption case.
KPK charged Comr.Gen. Budi Gunawan with involvement in suspicious transactions only three days after President Joko Widodo proposed the three star police general a sole candidate to replace police chief Gen. Sutarman.
In what seemed to be a retaliation, a few days later police arrested Bambang Wjajanto on charge of steering witnesses to give false testimonies at a Constitutional Court session over a dispute in the election of Kota Waringin district chief in Kalimantan in 2010.
The conflict is worse with Abraham Samad also facing charges that could put him a suspect that would result in his dismissal or resignation.
Budi Waseso said police investigations would soon summon Abraham Samad and would determine his status as a witness or a suspect.
However, the two star general said the summon would be made after the investigators have enough evidence sent.
Currently police investigators have issued an order to start a probe into the case of Abraham Samad, he said.
The investigation is based on a report from the KPK Watch Indonesia which accused Abraham Samad of holding meetings with political party leaders outside his duties as KPK leader.
Earlier Executive Director of KPK Watch Indonesia M Yusuf Sahide reported to police that Abraham Samad was often involved in political activities which are not allowed for a KPK leader.
The report by Yusuf was based on information from a newspaper article title "Greenhouse of Abraham Samad", which said Abraham Samad has held a number of meetings with political party leaders discussing issue including offering help to "handle case of a PDIP politician Emir Moeis who was then facing corruption charges.
Secretary General of the ruling PDIP party Hasto Kristiyanto confirmed the meetings saying Abraham Samad met with PDIP leaders discussing the possibility of proposing hims as Jokowi's running mate in the last presidential election. (WDY)
