Denpasar (Antara Bali) - Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika has suggested that local residents come together at monthly meetings, rather than during street rallies.
"This does not mean that they are not allowed to stage a rally. As citizens, they have the right to do so according to the constitution. But they had better channel their aspirations through the facilities we have made available," he said at a monthly meeting with local residents at the Bali Provincial Legislative Council (DPRD) building here on Saturday.
If the local people insisted on holding a rally, Governor Pastika said they could organize it when he is not attending other events.
"I don't want to give an impression that I am not willing to meet with them. As a matter of fact, I give them as wide a chance as possible. Therefore, there will be no reason for them to say they cannot meet the governor and other officials," he said.
The public often voices proposals, suggestions, input and criticism during a monthly meeting and are responded to quickly, since the meetings are attended by the governor, deputy governor, and representatives of provincial offices, Governor Pastika said. (INE/M038)
