Denpasar (Antara Bali) - The Denpasar district court has slapped an 18-year imprisonment and a fine of Rp4 billion for a courier of 2.5 kilogram methamphetamine.

The verdict read out by presiding judge Hasoloan Sianturi on Monday was heavier than 16 years jail term demanded by the prosecutors for the suspect Didi Pakpahan.

The convict expressed disappointment with the verdict saying the punishment was too heavy.

Didi was arrested by police on information from Junaedi Kanio, who was nabbed by the security officers at the Ngurah Rai airport upon his arrival from Kualalumpur.

Police found 2.5 kilograms of methamphetamine worth Rp5 billion in the street in Junaedi`s luggage.

The arrest of Junaedi led to the arrest of Yulianti, Vivi Veronika, Dewi Khumaeni, and Didi Pakpahan.

Heavier punishment of life sentence was given to Yulianti and Vivi. (*/M038)
