Jakarta (Antara Bali) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said that Islam was identical to peace and mutual respect so that violence, vandalism and vigilante were against the Islamic values.
"Islam is a peaceful religion. It is not identical with violence, vandalism and vigilante. I cannot accept violence committed in the name of Islam," the President said on its twitter account here on Tuesday.
President Yudhoyono asked all people to maintain peacefulness and quietude while fasting. He also called on people who did not fast to respect the fasting month.
"People who do not fast please respect the fasting month and for those who are fasting please maintain peace and calmness while fasting," the President said.
The Head of State on his tweets also called on the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) to stop committing violence and taking the law into its own hands.
"I call on the FPI to stop violence and taking the law into its own hands. I also order the National Police to uphold the law as fairly as possible," the President said. (*/M038)
