Jayapura (Antara Bali) - The Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) military police in Sorong district, West Papua province, is still investigating a naval officer believed to have shot dead a fisherman in Raja Ampat waters last Friday.

Commander of the Jayapura naval base Commodore Putu Wiramahadi said on Sunday the investigation was still going on at the TNI AL military police station in Sorong.

"If based on the results of the investigation what he has done violates the standing procedure he will be given a sanction," he said.

The incident occurred when the naval officer conducted a joint patrol along with the maritime affairs office and the conservation board of the Raja Ampat district, he said. (*/M038)
