Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Police said they would increase security in a number embassies and consulates general in the country following recent bombings in Boston, the USA.

"Soon after the incident yesterday we proactively stepped up security at those premises. It is our obligation to protect embassies of the countries which are potential (targets of attacks)," National Police head of public relations division, Inspector General Suhardi Aliusm, said here on Wednesday.

He said the police doubled security for several countries' embassies which could be targeted for terrorist attacks. He however said that security personnel would not be increased because of the effort.

Suhardi said if the bombings in Boston, the USA, were later found to be linked to terrorism the police would not stop working to protect the country.

He however hoped that the incident in the US would not spread to Indonesia and he appealed to the public to remain calm as police would always work to prevent terrorism. (IGT)
