Manado (Antara Bali) - Mount Lokon in North Sulawesi erupted again at 09.57 a.m. local time on Monday after it has shown signs of increased tremors since the day before.
"It is predicted the volcano sent ash up to 3,000 meters from the Tompaluan crater into the sky," Farid Ruskanda Bina, the head of Mt Lokon and Mt Mahawu observatory post of the Volcanic and Geological Disaster Mitigation Center (PVMBG) at the Bandung Geology Board, said.
The ash moved in the southerly and southwesterly directions, with part of it blanketing residential areas on the volcano's slope, such as Kakaskasen III, Wailan and Kayawu, North Tomohon sub-district, he said.
The volcano last erupted on Wednesday (April 3), producing thumping noise. Mt Lokon began showing signs of increased activity in July 2011, prompting the center to raise its alert status to level IV. (*/DWA)
