Mamuju (Antara Bali) - A foreign investor from China has proposed to build a solar power plant to cope with shortage in power supply on the island of Karampuang in the regency of Mamuju, West Sulawesi Province.
"Currently we are studying possible cooperation with the provincial administration of West Sulawesi to develop solar power on the tourist island," a spokesman of the Chinese investor Prof. Ishage said here on Friday.
The Chinese investor is building a hotel on the island, which has so far relied on power generator sets for electricity.
He said solar power could end years of shortage in power supply on the island.
He said building the hotel is not the main target of the Chinese investors on the island but to invest in the mining sector. He gave no further details. (DWA/IGT/T007)
