Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Members of the Ethics Council of the Supreme Court and the Judicial Commission decided on Tuesday to dishonorably discharge chief justice Achmad Yamanie for his act of changing a sentence ruling for a narcotic convict.

Council chairman Paulus E Lotulong said when reading the decision that supreme court judge Yamanie could not give logical reasons and enough evidence to support his defense statement.

"So his defense was rejected. He could not disprove with his defense statement the facts collected by the Supreme Court internal team," council member Suparman Marzuki said.

The council members consisted of Supreme Court justices Paulus Effendi Lotulung as chairman, Artidjo Alkostar, Muhamad Saleh, Imam Anshori Saleh and Judicial Commission members Suparman Marzuki, Taufiqurrahman Syahuri and Jaja Ahmad Jayus.

Because of Yamanie's act, narcotic convict Hengky Gunawan's sentence was reduced from 15 to 12 years in jail.(IGT)
