Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Indonesian Manpower and Transmigration Minister Muhaimin Iskandar has called on the Malaysian government to take action against those employing illegal Indonesian immigrants (TKI).

"We have urged the Malaysian government to take firm action against their citizens who are illegally employing Indonesian manpower. They should strictly prohibit their people from employing illegal TKI and procedures that violate the MoU of both countries," he said here on Tuesday.

Muhaimin stated that he had already met with his Malaysian counterpart, the Deputy Minister of Human Resources, in an effort to solve TKI-related problems.

"I have met with the Deputy Minister and expressed hope that they would enforce the law on those illegally employing TKI and breaching the bilateral MoU between Indonesia and Malaysia," he added.

Muhaimin also expressed optimism that the Malaysian government would raise awareness of the issue within the country and take strong action against those illegal employing TKI ¿so it could serve as a deterrent against potential perpetrators in the future.

He added that he had requested Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa to conduct a bilateral meeting with the Malaysia government in order to step up the protection of TKI.(*/M038)
