London (Antara Bali) - A deputy minister has said it is not easy for the government to carry out its policy on subsidy reduction but for the sake of bigger interest the policy must be implemented.

"The subsidy must be cut so that the funds could be used to, among others, develope energy infrastructures and to ensure a long term energy supply," Deputy Minister for Energy and Mineral Resources Rudi Ribiandini said in a press statement in Hamburg made available to ANTARA here on Sunday.

He was speaking at the Indonesian Consulate General in Hamburg on "Energy and Mineral Resources for the People"s Welfare of the Indonesian People" to about 50 representatives of the Indonesian Experts and Scholars Association (IASI), students, lecturers, think thank groups and local people and staffers of the Indonesian Consulate General in Hamburg.

The energy theme of he deputy minister's presentation is relevant with the development in Germany which has limited sources of energy but has decided to close down its nuclear energy following the nuclear incident that took place in Fukushima, Japan not long ago.

Germany has also decided to use 80 percent renewable energy in 2050 such as hydro power, geothermal, biomass and wind energy.(IGT)
