Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The foreign ministers of ASEAN countries have agreed to issue a joint statement that addresses the recent developments in the Rakhine province of Myanmar, after extensive talks between Indonesia and the association, a press release from the Foreign Affairs Ministry said on Saturday.
It also pointed out that the joint statement was agreed upon after the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs spoke to his Myanmarese counterpart.
The ASEAN foreign ministers have said that they support the ongoing efforts made by the government of Myanmar to help restore peace and tackle the humanitarian crisis in Rakhine, and are willing to provide any assistance needed to end the conflict in the region.
The group of ministers also emphasized that it is important to instill harmony and national solidarity in the Myanmarese society, and this has to be an integral part of the democratic reform process that the country¿s government is currently trying to implement.
They also expressed their confidence in and great expectations of the government of Myanmar for the ongoing democratic process and political transformation taking place in the country, including the efforts to create harmony among the various communities living there.(IGT)
