West Sumatra (Antara Bali) - Police said they are in difficulty to locate illegal gold miners known to operate in South Solok, West Sumatra.

"The miners move from one  to another place far from human settlements,  and not accessible by cars, South Solok police chief Djoko Trisulo said .

Earlier illegal miners operated only in certain areas such as Sangir Batanghari  and  Pamong Gadang  in the district of  Sangir that police could easily spotted them, Djoko said here on Tuesday.

The miners used modern tools , but there is no indication they used dangerous materials such as mercury to process  gold ores in the mining site, he said.

In the first half the year , there were only three cases of illegal gold prospecting in South Solok, declining from 12 cases in the same period last year.(IGT)
