Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The spirit of Pancasila - the five basic principles of the Republic of Indonesia - will save the nation from the threat of conflict and disintegration, said Vice President Boediono here on Friday.
Speaking at a function to mark the founding of Pancasila at Nusantara Building, the vice president remarked that "the national security can continue to be maintained because of the spirit of Pancasila."
The five basic principles of the Republic are as follows: belief in one Supreme God, a just and civilised humanity, the unity of Indonesia, democracy guided by the wisdom of representative deliberation, and social justice for all Indonesians.
Boediono explained that Pancasila could unite all the people of Indonesia, from Sabang to Merauke and from Miangas to Rote Island.
"When Bung Karno, the founding father of Indonesia, formulated the concept of Pancasila on June 1, 1945, he did it on the basis of historical development," Boediono pointed out.(IGT/T007)
