Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The Transportation Ministry is planning to audit bus service companies in a bid to cut the number of road accidents in Indonesia, an official has said.

"We will audit bus companies especially those serve inter-province routes," Vice Minister Bambang Susantono said here on Tuesday.

He said the audit would be prioritized in provinces that record maximum number of accidents, such as East Java.

Earlier, it was reported that President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono had ordered the Transportation Ministry to examine the performance of its operational units in light of the recent spate of traffic accidents.

The evaluation had to be conducted on the performance of every directorate general in the Transportation Ministry, namely the land, sea and air transportation directorates, presidential spokesman Julian Pasha said.(IGT)
