Palembang (Antara Bali) - South Sumatra Culture and Tourism Office will optimize Bukit Siguntang in Palembang to attract more tourists, its spokesman Toni Pagarbesi said here on Tuesday.

Toni said gymnastic and jogging activities conducted by the  local people in  Bukit Siguntang  would be optimized to attract more holiday makers.

Besides various traditional foods with tempting flavors from South Sumatra would be sold in Bukit Siguntang  for holiday makers.

Located in the village of Bukit Lama, four kilometers away from the city of Palembang, Bukit Siguntang is a historical place for Buddhists in the age of Sriwijaya Kingdom.

To date the area remains sacred area with several tombs of King Segentar Alam, Princess Kembang Dadar, Princess Rambut Selako, Commander Bagus Kuning, Commander Bagus Karang, Commander Tuan Junjungan, Commander Raja Baru Api, and Commander Jago Lawang.

Based on the findings in 1920, around this hill was found a Buddhist statue in Amarawati art-style having the face of Sri Langka deriving from the eleventh century AD, which is now placed in the courtyard of Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Museum.(IGT)
