Lahat (Antara Bali) - A landslide killed two inhabitants of Gunung Karto village, Tanjungskati Pumi subdistrict, Lahat District, South Sumatra, on Wednesday.
Hamri (50) and Tarno (44) died after being buried under a five-meter-thick mud layer while digging the ground for the installation of a clean water pipe in a hilly area, around two kilometers from the nearest settlement, said Sirianto, the Gunung Karto village chief, here on Thursday.
"We could not rescue them because follow-up landslides kept on occurring," he said.
Another digger, Jon Apriansyah, who was submerged by a one-meter thick mudflow from the landslide was rescued by some villagers.(IGT)
