Denpasar (Antara Bali) - Head of the Denpasar Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) Wayan Suwardana said since the earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale on Friday at  22.59 local time until today, there had been no aftershocks.

However, there is still a possibility of a quake in the disaster area, but it was not predicted, he said here on Sunday.

"Up till now there is no researcher or any other related party who could predict an earthquakie," Suwardana said.

He said the sea south of Bali is prone to quakes.

Previously, an earthquake struck Bali Island on Friday at 22.59 measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale.

According to Denpasar BMKG, the epicenter of the quake lies 67 km southeast of Nusa Dua.

The quake is 70 kilometers deep in the sea, 9.18 degrees south latitude and 115.69 degrees eastern longitude.

The quake lasted only several seconds and also felt by tourists staying in a hotels in Nusa Dua, prompting many of them leaving their hotel rooms in panic.(*)
