Denpasar (Antara Bali) - The Ngurah Rai International Airport plans to have a fighter aircraft on standby to secure the visit of King Salman bin Abdulaziz al-Saud of Saudi Arabia to Bali.

"An official order for the fighter is yet to be released, but it has been planned," Aviator Colonel Wayan Suparman noted in his press statement at the Emergency Office Center in the Ngurah Rai International Airport, Bali, on Monday.

Suparman further stated that his party awaits direct orders from the central authorities.

"We are now awaiting instructions," he noted.

Taking into account the high volume of air traffic at the Ngurah Rai International Airport, the fighter aircraft will take off from the Hasanuddin Air Base in Makassar or the Iswahyudi Air Base in Madiun.

He revealed that the Air Force is coordinating with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Transportation, Police Force, Army Headquarters, provincial government, and several other related entities to secure the Saudi King and his entourage during the visit to Indonesia.

Additionally, Manager of PT Angkasa Pura I of the Ngurah Rai International Airport Yanus Suprayogi stated that his office had prepared a parking space to accommodate six large-bodied aircraft, as a form of Angkasa Pura`s preparedness with regard to the King`s visit.

The parking space is prepared at the south side of the airport, at a distance from where commercial flights operate, so that public activities are not hindered.

Despite the arrangements, he did forecast some delays in several flight schedules, as he is yet to ascertain the exact time of King Salman`s arrival.
Vice President Jusuf Kalla had earlier expressed belief that it was high time that the Saudi King visited Indonesia.

"Firstly, the visit is a reciprocal gesture to the Indonesian president`s multiple visits to Saudi Arabia. The president has probably undertaken 25 visits to the Kingdom," he stated at the Vice Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Friday.

Kalla affirmed that with such a background, it was understandable that the King is bringing along a large number of delegates, comprising over a thousand people, since a Saudi King is visiting Indonesia after 47 years. The last visit by a Saudi King to Indonesia was in 1970.

"This is why they are doing it at such a massive scale," he explained.

King Salman will be on a visit to Indonesia on Mar 1-9 and after meeting President Joko Widodo in Jakarta, he will depart to Bali, where he will take some time off.

"The King is looking to have some rest in Indonesia, and we will welcome him," he stated.

Furthermore, Kalla explained that the main agenda of the King`s visit is to strengthen economic partnership between both nations beyond the realm of the oil and gas sector. (WDY)
