Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The UK government is ready to help Indonesia improve its ease of doing business ranking in order to win the global competition.
"England has experience in reducing regulations that hamper business," Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Indonesia Moazzam Malik stated in London on Monday night local time or Tuesday morning Indonesian time.
Malik said his government was ready to assist Indonesia in its efforts to reach the 40th position in the ease of doing business ranking from the current position at 109.
"We are ready to share our experiences with Indonesia to help it reach the 40th rank in the world," Malik emphasized.
According to the ambassador, the improvement in the ease of doing business ranking was important to encourage the movement of domestic and foreign investors.
Malik noted on Tuesday (April 19) that President Joko Widodo will meet with British Prime Minister David Cameron to discuss various issues.
"They will discuss several important issues related to economic cooperation between the two countries," he remarked.
The discussion on strengthening business relations had been conducted by the prime minister and president last year.
"Now, the meeting will discuss the progress and obstacles," he added.
The ambassador stated that several advancements, which will be announced on Tuesday or Wednesday, include a deal between British and Indonesian companies regarding investment in Indonesia.
"The value of investments and trade agreements between Indonesia and the United Kingdom is much larger than that in other European countries. The leaders will also discuss the global economic situation," Malik remarked.
According to the ambassador, the meeting will also discuss cooperation in the field of education.
"We are ready to cooperate with Indonesia to improve the quality of human resources by sending more Indonesian students to study in England," he affirmed.
Moreover, he added that several other issues will be discussed such as the South China Sea situation, human rights, relations with the EU, and others. (WDY)
