South Korea Becomes One Of Main Sources Of Investment: BKPM

Jakarta (Antara Bali) - South Korea became one of the main sources of investment in Indonesia, Head of the Investment Coordinating Board Franky Sibarani stated.

        "South Korea became among the top five foreign investors during the last five years and it helped the country as one of the main sources of investment in Indonesia," Franky Sibarani said here Saturday.

        South Korea was one of Indonesia's priority countries for investment, Sibarani remarked.

        Indonesia's priority countries for investment are China, Taiwan, the Middle East, and Singapore, apart from Japan, South Korea, USA, Australia and England.

        The value of South Korean investment reached US$1.2 billion, growing by 7.6 percent from the same period in 2014, according to data from the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) in 2015.

        Based on data at BKPM, from 2010 to 2015, South Korean foreign direct investment in Indonesia was worth nearly $8 billion in more than 4,000 projects in sectors of metal, machine and plastic industries, rubber and rubber goods industries, mining, and chemical and pharmaceutical industries.

        "In the period, Korean investment projects provided jobs to more than 770,000 Indonesians," he said.

        Throughout 2015, BKPM received investment commitments worth $4.8 billion from South Korean investors. (WDY)
