Jayapura, Papua (Antara Bali) - The search and rescue (SAR) team has located the fuselage at the crash site of Trigana flight number IL 267, which went missing in Oksibil, Papua, Sunday, National SAR Agency's Chief Marshall Bambang Soelistyo stated.
"According to the report received at 11:05 a.m. local time, the SAR team has found the charred remains of 20 bodies," Bambang stated here on Tuesday.
Bambang noted that until now, the weather conditions at the site were bad. He hoped that the efforts to retrieve the bodies could be conducted smoothly.
"Currently, we are focusing on recovering the bodies of the victims. We are also prioritizing our efforts to locate the black box and the aircraft's debris for further investigation," the chief remarked.
The SAR team in Jayapura has also made the necessary preparations at Bhayangkara Hospital, which will be used as a post to conduct investigation on the victims' bodies.
"Until now, we have not found any survivors. We have only found 20 bodies," Bambang remarked.
He added that the bodies were found at the crash site. The team had encountered difficulties in moving the victims' bodies to Oksibil region.
The aircraft, with PK-YRN registration code, reportedly went missing since Sunday during its flight from Jayapura to Oksibil. The SAR team found the debris of the aircraft on Monday afternoon.
The ATR Trigana aircraft took off from Sentani airport at 2:22 p.m. local time and made its last contact with the Oksibil air traffic control (ATC) at 2:55 p.m. local time.
The IL 267 aircraft, with 54 people on board, did not respond to calls made by the Oksibil ATC that attempted to establish contact at 3 p.m. local time. (WDY)
