Landslide Buries 11 Houses On Mount Bromo Slope

   Pasuruan, E Java (Antara Bali) -- Landslide buried 11 houses on the slope of Mount Bromo in East Java due to heavy rainfall followed by winds for about three hours, an official has said.

         "The avalanche buried 11 houses in four villages, two of the houses were located in the villages of Wonikitri, five houses in Tosari, a house in Sedaeng and three houses in Podokoyo," head of the Tosari sub-district Teguh Winarto said here on Sunday.

         According to him, although the landslide damaged 1.5 hectares of potato farms, but it left no fatality.

         "The total loss of potato crops is around Rp40 million, while the total losses of houses is about Rp25 million.

         Meanwhile, head of Ledoksari hamlet in Tosari village Hendrik Purwanto informed that the landslide occurred after heavy rainfall and winds for three to four hours.

         The landslide then headed to the lower ground, so that the residential houses were then exposed to the rock avalanches, Purwanto stated.

         Apart from that, a landslide hit Garung Lor village in Sukoharjo sub-district, Wonosob District, Central Java Province, on Saturday (Jan 24), forcing hundreds of villagers to evacuate themselves to a safer places.

         The landslide came from a hill having a height of about 20 meters and a width 20 meters, that belonged to state-owned forestry company Perum Perhutani, Muhai, coordinator of the Wonosobo SAR team, said here Sunday.

         "There were no report of casualties in the landslide that occurred on Saturday at 6.30 pm, following incessant heavy rains," he stated. (WDY)
