Thousands Policemen Deployed on Bali

Denpasar (Antara Bali) - Bali Police Chief Inspector General Albertus Julius Benny Mokalu has said 12,260 police personnel would be deployed to ensure Christmas and New Years remains peaceful on the resort island.

"We will involve all of our personnel to ensure security for Christmas and New Year celebrations across Bali Island," Albertus said, after attending the Candle Light Operation 2013 show of force here on Saturday.

He noted that the police personnel would cooperate with the National Defense Forces (TNI) to maintain security at a number of sensitive locations, including less traveled roads, which are believed to be entry points for terrorists.

"Together with TNI personnel, we have to be more proactive and innovative, said Albertus, the former Bengkulu regional police chief.

Meanwhile, National Police Chief Gen Sutarman, speaking in Jakarta on Friday, reminded all police personnel across the country to keep vigilant to prevent any acts of terrorism during Christmas and the New Years celebrations.

"Security must be stepped up against possible acts of terrorism at houses of worship and public areas during Christmas and New Year," warned Sutarman in Jakarta on Friday. (Dwa)
