Egyptair Opens New Route Cairo-Jakarta

Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The Egyptian Civil Aviation Minister Abdel Aziz Fadel and Indonesian Ambassador to Egypt Nurfaizi Suwandi have witnessed the cooperation signing for the opening of EgyptAir's new flight route from Cairo to Jakarta.

"The cooperation agreement was signed by PT Mesirindo Utama's Chief Executive Saleh Abdul Malik, and EgyptAir's Vice President of Commercial Division Sherif Hussein on Tuesday (Aug 28)," Economic Section Head at Indonesian Embassy in Cairo Iwan Wijaya Multayatno told Antara here on Wednesday, Aug 28.

The first flight from Cairo to Jakarta is scheduled to be hold on the mid-December this year, Multayatno said, adding that EgyptAir has given its credence to PT Mesirindo Utama as marketing agent to Indonesia.

Addressing on the agreement ceremony, Minister Fadel pointed out that the cooperation is expected to benefit both Egyptian and Indonesian, especially for thousands of Indonesian students in Egypt.

"The EgyptAir will provide good services including special prices  and facilty of baggage's capacity for students who usually bring a lot of books from Egypt," he noted.

Ambassador Nurfaizi meanwhile stated that people-to-people relationship between the two countries have prevalent for a long time, even before Indonesia had proclaimed its independence.

Hence, EgyptAir's new direct flight would further strengthen the two nations' relationship, he said.

"This partnership will not only benefit students, but also gives profit for two countries' tourism sector. Our businessmen also could enjoy the shorter duration when they export or import their goods" he said.

EgyptAir has stated that it will provide proper services to passengers including the plane's atmosphere of Indonesian culture, as well as dish of Indonesian culinary such as fried rice and the popular "rendang".

Before landing in Jakarta, EgyptAir's plane will transit for 1.5 hours in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. (*/DWA)
