Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The Radiodiffusion Television Senegalise's (RTS) Television Director Seynabou Diop said the media should play more roles in popularizing the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and its post-2015 agenda.
Diop said during her visit to Antara News Agency in Jakarta on Thursday that the media has a potential role to spread information on the MDGs program that their governments have established.
"Without a sufficient popularization, the people would not be able to support their governments to achieve the goals in which the media has an obligation to inform the program, though your media does not belong to the state," she said.
As an official broadcast station of Senegal, Diop said RTF has already helped Senegal's Government popularize the goals that were packaged in several special programs.
"We help the government, particularly in the popularization of the programs in Senegal's remote areas," she said.
Particularly, in Senegal, one of the major achievement of MDGs is gender equality where they have a law that obliged one man, one woman composition in the parliament.
"In our parliament, we have a law that regulates one man, one woman where the composition of the house of representatives' member has to contain 50 percent of men and 50 percent of women," she said. (*/M038)
