Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Gas supplies for domestic needs will increase to 4,560 British thermal units per day (bbtud) in 2014, the Oil and Gas Executive Task Force (SKK Migas) has predicted.
"That's good, meaning that domestic demand continues to increase," the deputy for commercial control to the SKK Migas head, Widhyawan Prawiraatmadja said in a discussion here on Friday.
He attributed the increase in gas consumption to rising demand from ceramic, glass, and paper industries, among others.
The rising gas demand will reduce electricity subsidy, he said. "The use of diesel oil to generate electrical power is very costly. Therefore, the use of gas is cheaper," he said.
The rising domestic demand indicates that more and more industries are growing, he said.
According to data, gas supplies for domestic needs in the first two months of this year reached 3,391 bbtud, with gas exports reaching 3,479 bbtud. (*/DWA)
