Denpasar (Antara Bali) - A number of students of the Indonesian Art Institute (ISI) here are holding a "Back to Basics" joint exhibition at the Denpasar Cultural Center from February 14 to 21, 2010.
The exhibition is a token of appreciation and public accountability of the study program, said the ISI Denpasar, Pure Art Studies Program chairman, Drs I Wayan Kondra, MSI in Denpasar, on Thursday.
"The exhibited art works were made by the students during their first semester, so this can become a benchmark of the progress made by ISI Denpasar students after pursuing their Fine Arts studies," he said.
A total of 56 paintings and eight sculptures are on exhibit.
"The theme 'Back to Basics' means that we must go back to nature in order to preserve and protect nature. The works on display convey an urgent message to mankind to partake of the preservation of nature's beauty," he said.
ISI Denpasar Rector Prof Dr I Wayan Rai S, MA could not hide his pride about the students who had dared to hold an exhibition of their creations after studying for only a semester.
At least 15 students initial artworks had been sold which proved the quality of their art works can compete in the free market.
