Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Indonesia hopes global food resilience would improve following series of First Senior Officials Meetings of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC SOM), Agriculture Minister Suswono said here on Friday.
"Volatility and food price hike could happen in the future and therefore every country must strive to secure its food supply," he said when opening the APEC SOM.
He said countries with good food resilience should help those who are less resilient so that global food resilience could be achieved resulting from balanced food distribution.
"Many advanced countries have even thrown away foods while others are suffering from a shortage," he added.
He said efforts to improve food resilience in Indonesia were aimed at especially increasing agricultural productivity starting from on-farm to off-farm levels.
The efforts have been taken especially with regard to dealing with climate change and agricultural land conversion problems, he said.
"Each country has its own problems. The essence is how to improve productivity and reduce the loss," he said.(*/DWA)
