TNI Tightens Security Ahead Of BDF

Nusa Dua (Antara Bali) - Indonesian National Defence Forces (TNI) personnel have stepped up security in Bali ahead of the 5th Bali Democracy Forum (BDF), which will be held from November 8-10.

"Good coordination among all security agencies in the field is needed because we will not tolerate any disruption of security during the event," Udayana Military Commander May Gen Wisnu Bawa Tenaya said here on Monday.

Thousands of TNI personnel have been deployed to ensure security at the annual meeting, which is scheduled to be attended by 12 heads of state from, among others, Iran, Afghanistan, Australia, Yemen, Timor Leste, South Korea, and New Papua Guinea.

At least 27 ministers and representatives from 73 countries will participate in the forum.

"Therefore, security has been tightened at some entry points of Nusa Dua, as well as at Gilimanuk port in Jembrana district and Padangbai port in Karangasem district," Wisnu stated.

Meanwhile, Bali Regional Police have also deployed 2,700 personnel in an effort to beef up security during the event.(IGT)
