Economic Lessons Should Be Taught At Early Age

Nusa Dua (Antara Bali) - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Mari Elka Pangestu expressed her hope that creative economic subjects would be taught at an early age so Indonesian children could become well-educated and innovative people in the future.

"If it is necessary, the creative economy lessons can be included in the school curriculum so that the children can innovate in creating something that is more worth selling and marketable," Mari said at a welcoming ceremony of "Marshall Pacific Rim Business Forum" participants here on Friday evening.

The Minister also said that Indonesia has great potential in materials that need a 'touch of creativity' to become high-value goods.

"For instance, local cultural crafts, such as Bali woven fabric, can become  beautiful, modern, and high-value clothes after being given a creative and innovative touch by designers," Mari explained.

However, to achieve the goal Mari said the government should provide society with sufficient insight and knowledge in an effort to improve the nation's economy.

"The government, through the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, will continue providing the necessary trainings and counseling," she added.(*/M038/T007)
