Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The Association of Indonesian Businessmen (Apindo) urged the government to facilitate trade and economic cooperation with Latin American countries.
The first to be done is providing adequate infrastructure and remove all restrictions on development of infrastructure, association chairman Sofyan Wanandi said here on Thursday .
Sofyan told reporters ahead of a two-day meeting starting next Monday of ASEAN-Latin American Business Forum that air and sea transport facilities still need improvement.
He said there has been talks with the management of Garuda Indonesia, the nation's flag carrier on plan to open a new route to Latin America.
He also said that sea transport facilities also need modernization, adding so far importers have to use Singapore port service.
Indonesia importers using the service of Singaporean port have to cooperate with Singaporean companies, he said.
He said the ports of Tanjung Priok of Jakarta and Tanjung Perak of Surabaya still need modernization of their facilities.
He said many Latin American companies are interested in investing in livestock farming.(*/M038)
