Police Confiscate 46 Bags Sugar From Malaysia

Pontianak (Antara Bali) - The Mempawah police precinct in West Kalimantan province secured a pickup car carrying as many as 46 bags of white sugar (50 kilograms each bag) allegedly brought from Malaysia, the local police has said.

"Police have questioned two suspects namely Su (44) and Mu (39) at the Mampawah police precinct," head of the local police public relations section, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Mukson Munandar said here on Sunday.

Both suspects were red-handed caught on Friday (May 18) at 11.30 p.m. local time during a police raid in Johansyah Bakri street, Mukson said.

The sugar allegedly brought to West Kalimantan through Badau that shares border with Lubok Antu, Malaysia, was later marketed in the region.

In the meantime, Sanggau regent Setiman Sudin predicted that around 77 percent of sugar supply in West Kalimantan originating from illegal sugar trade through the border entry point.(IGT)
