Singaraja (Antara Bali) - A total of 1,263 people in Buleleng district, Bali province, have tested positive for HIV/AIDS until April 2012, according to the local chapter of the National AIDS Commission (KPA).
Most of the people living with HIV/AIDS were commercial sex workers, Made Arga Pynatih, chief of the KPA's chapter in Buleleng district, said on Sunday.
The rest were workers, private employees, civil servants, housewives, and children under five, he said.
"We have encouraged the use of condoms because we cannot ban sex workers from practicing prostitution," he said.
The people living with HIV/AIDS were mostly found in Buleleng subdistrict, followed by Gerokgak subdistrict and Sawan subdistrict, said Ricko of the Citra Usada Indonesia Foundation (YCUI).(*/T007)
