President Asks All In Govt To Ponder Fight Against Corruption

Jakarta (Antara Bali) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has called on the rank and file in government to not just ceremonially observe  international anti corruption day on December 9, but to ponder to what extent the war against corruption has been implemented.

Chairing a limited meeting at his office on Monday, President Yudhoyono said the ranks of Attorney General Office and National Police at the anti corruption day ceremony should inform the public about the steps that had been taken in the handling of corruption cases.

The limited meeting was attended by All Indonesia Regional Governments Association (APPSI)  APPSI general chairman Fauzi Bowo, North Sulawesi Governor  Sarundajang, and Central Java Governor Bibit Waluyo, Legal and Human Rights Minister Amir Syarifuddin and his deputy Denny Indrayana, National Police Chief Gen Timur Pradopo, Attorney General Basrief Arief, Minister/State Secretary Sudi Silalahi, and Cabinet Secretary Dipo Alam.

"All of you know the ceremony to observe the anti corruption day is not as important as what we have done and will do in the handling of corruption cases in the country," the president said.

The head of state asserted that the observance of international anti corruption day in Semarang, Central Java, on December 9, 2011 should not be simply loaded with slogans.

"I want the handling of corruption cases be voiced sharply and concretely so that with the existing facts we can take the right steps forward," the president said.(**)
