Denpasar (Antara Bali) - The office of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) in Bali recorded a total of 10 aftershocks by Thursday evening after a 6.8-magnitude earthquake rocked the resort island in the afternoon.
"Based on the results of our monitoring up till now there have been 10 aftershocks. But only the 10th aftershock could be felt," the head of BMKG office in Bali, Wayan Suwardana, said here on Thursday.
The 10th aftershock occurred at 03.52 p.m. with a magnitude of 5.6 on the Richter scale, he said.
The epicenter of the 10th aftershock located at 9.76 degrees southern latitude and 114.53 degrees eastern longitude was not far from that of the previous quake, he said.
"Like the main quake, the aftershock did not have the potential to trigger a tsunami," he said.
He said the office had kept monitoring latest developments in the aftermath of the 6.8-magnitude quake. He added however that he had yet to receive a report as to whether another aftershock would occur.(**)
