The Minister echoes government's readiness to assist KPU realize  election

The government, partnering with the General Elections Commission (KPU), the organizer of the general election, is ready to ascertain the successful implementation of the 2019 general elections, according to Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo.

"The election organizer's preparations have currently reached 99.9 percent completion. That is praiseworthy. The government, in collaboration with the KPU, is ready to support the anti-graft body and in no way wants its tasks to be hindered," he informed the election monitoring teams at the Home Affairs Ministry's building here on Thursday.

The minister affirmed that governments at the province, district, and municipal levels can lend assistance to the KPU in offering meals and beverages as well as the budget in accordance with the election organizer's requirements, unless and until a joint decision is made with the regional legislative council.

The process of recording the people's identities for e-ID, deemed a prerequisite to exercise one's voting right, has run smoothly, with only the provinces of Papua and West Papua reporting below 85 percent, he noted.

The Home Affairs Ministry has directed election monitoring teams at the ministry's command posts to work tirelessly, with echelon I officials taking turns in leading the efforts, he explained.

"All ministries must set up monitoring teams. This same has been followed by private parties and the media, including overseas monitoring teams," he pointed out.

Kumolo is optimistic that the press, possessing crucial powers, would bring to light obstacles encountered by the election's organizer.
